I didn’t take golf seriously until after my hockey career ended. I attended my first junior clinics when I was 10. I wanted to do what my older brother was doing and that was golf. I picked the game back up in my 20’s. I worked in a golf store for a few years and eventually got good enough to get into a Professional Golf Management program. During college, I worked as an apprentice golf professional in the summer, helping with lessons and junior clinics. I often found myself repeating lesson plans because the information I was providing wasn’t being implemented, largely because players didn’t know how practice it. My interests leaned towards technology and equipment instead of teaching, and I eventually joined a major golf club manufacturer as a Technical Sales Representative and earned the title of master fitter. I’d spend my days on driving ranges and between appointments I would work on my swing while testing the equipment. My game took a huge leap. I found myself competing in tournaments but not quite breaking through. I needed to work on the mind game. I poured over every book I could find, strengthening my mind and learning what it takes to play my best. During my career I have been fortunate enough to win 6 Club Championships, 2 Men’s Open titles, a provincial championship, a doubles championship, top-10s in city events, and numerous other tournament wins. What I found in those books was the right mindset and how to practice properly. I took the talent I had, learned how to practice properly and efficiently, while raising a family, to put together a golf resume I am very proud of.
